This page gives an overview of the data available in the BDS (Blacknest Data System).
The user may choose data formats:
The original seismic sensor data is stored in files in a number of different data formats. In general each data format contains a header, providing information on the contained data, such as the time, the array/station name, the channel and the sample rate. There are then one or more channels of time domain samples from the array's or station's seismometers. When the BDS imports the original data it is stored in an internal format (BDS data format). Along with the seismic data there is a MySql database containing meta data such as frequency responses and amplitude scaling information for each channel available. While importing the data the BDS stores information about the data file, which may be displayed by selecting "View Info" from the lefthand menu.
Metadata are output in a choice of formats:
The links above for data formats SEED and IMS2.0 also describe the corresponding metadata formats. SAC-Polezero format is suitable for use in the SAC "transfer" command - see SAC manual.
(let the user beware) The information in metadata and headers of downloaded data is correct to the best of our knowledge, but users should check wherever possible that timestamps, calibration information and array channel order are consistent with the data.
